Day 6 started with a morning circle followed by workshop on design workshops, that is the practical design exercises on permaculture design courses. I must admit I felt this tinge of envy when everyone talked about their group design processes when all of mine consisted of were prison gardens on my own! However it was really useful to hear the feedback and ideas put forward by the group to make the design exercises more rewarding and enjoyable.
After the morning break we had a session on diversity of teaching, for example the differences between working with small and large group of people. The session led nicely on to one about inclusion. We talked about all the different ‘isms’ and more about how to make our courses accessible. Needless to say my thoughts came to the surface!!
After lunch we had a bit more time to prepare our microteaches and then had a session with Hannah about diploma promotion. I picked up a few good tips of diploma graduates so that was handy. Finally we had a fear busting session with Joe – putting all our fears into a hat and then talking about them as a group. This was a really useful session that most people fell quite deeply into – seems we all have the same inner fears and there are common tools to deal with them.
